QCT Pre-registration test for aspiring primary teachers
The Queensland Government will introduce the QCT Pre-registration Test in response to Recommendation 1 of its commissioned report, A Shared Challenge: Improving Literacy, Numeracy and Science in Queensland Primary Schools, specifically:
...that all aspiring primary teachers be required to demonstrate through test performance, as a condition of (teacher) registration, that they meet threshold levels of knowledge about the teaching of literacy, numeracy and science and have sound levels of content knowledge in these areas.
An important quality assurance measure in the test development phase has included advice from an expert panel, which has progressively reviewed test items and other test processes, including providing expert advice for the development of the test-instrument benchmarks.
Also, to ensure that the test instruments and items are psychometrically sound and that the test administration processes are effective and efficient, two phases of trialling have been conducted. Approximately 500 pre-service teacher graduates participated in field trialling conducted during March 2011.
